May 19-20th

The Ukrainian military continues to fight against the Russian occupiers in the east and south of the country. The United States is providing military assistance to Ukraine’s armed forces. The liberated areas of Kharkiv region are being demined by Ukrainian sappers and patrolled by Ukrainian fighters. Doctors and nurses in frontline hospitals are constantly saving the lives of wounded civilians and servicemen.

May 21-22nd

Polish President Andrzej Duda arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. Photojournalists Mstislav Chernov and Evgeniy Maloletka won the Georgiy Gongadze Prize. Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to defend the country in the eastern and southern regions. Ukrainians wounded during the war are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation.

May 23-24th

The Solomianskyi District Court in Kyiv found Russian soldier Vadim Shishimarin guilty of killing a Ukrainian civilian and sentenced him to life in prison. Fighting continues in eastern areas of the country. The Ukrainian military is reinforcing the protection of the border between Ukraine and Belarus. Deoccupied cities are gradually coming back to life.
