A book by the founder of the Kyiv Food and Wine Festival (Brave Wine), Sergiy Klimov, about the history of Ukrainian winemaking from ancient times till the present day; about the grape varieties growing in our country, wine barrels, bottles, and corks made in Ukraine; conversations with sommeliers and wine experts. The highlight of the publication is a series of stories about modern winemakers from different regions of Ukraine, recorded during Ukraїner and Sergiy’s expedition in the autumn 2022.
”Winemaking appeared on the territory of modern Ukraine several thousand years ago. However, the influence of various empires and inept rulers left a lasting negative impact on the country’s wine history. Wars, famine, uprooted vineyards (Gorbachev’s gift from the 1980s), and the production of low-quality wine during the Soviet era are just the tip of the iceberg that instilled in the minds of Ukrainians the idea that there has never been and will never be any good wine in Ukraine,” says Sergiy.
