Region

Zakarpattia is a historical region in the southwest of Ukraine located in the Carpathians' foothills and slopes and within the Tysa river basin. It borders Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania. Its multiculturalism and multiethnicity (Vlachs, Romanians, Slovaks, Germans, Roma and Hungarians live here) are reflected in various traditions and holidays. In Zakarpattia, ancient castles, green tourism guest houses, horse farms, cheese dairies, and vineyards can be found. Ukraine's largest mountain lake, Synevyr, is located here. The administrative centre of the region is the city of Uzhhorod.
